Day 10 – Have You Room?
Luke 2:7
Focal Scripture: “And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn,.”
According to Spurgeon: We have free speech, yet we are not free to talk about Christ. Even on Sunday afternoon we do not talk about Christ. We will talk about ministries, Sunday school, “or the various agencies in connection with the Church, but how little we say about Christ!” We don’t talk about the Godhead and humanity, the finished work and righteousness, the ascension or the second coming of Jesus.” If we try to bring up those subjects we are bible thumpers, we take the word too seriously. Who has room for Christ? One will say he is not worthy, the room they have is not fit for a king. It is too simple. It is too despicable, their heart is too foul, their sin too great. The question is do you have room, not are you worthy, nor are you righteous. If that was the question we would all be disqualified. Jesus was born in a manger, a place not fit for a king, a simple place, a despicable place, a foul place. If He can enter this world from a manger, He will enter into the darkest of hearts. He will call it home and bring life into a once dead soul.
No Room For Christ In The Inn-Sermon delivered Dec. 21, 1862
My Thoughts: It is Sunday afternoon, Church is over. What do we occupy our time with? Once a week for a few hours we give our time and sometimes attention to God, but what do we do with the remainder of the time? Do we seek Him in prayer? Do we seek His word like we seek bread? Do we seek to fill our hearts with His Holy Spirit? No, that’s not necessary. No, that is only for the pastor to do. No, that is only for those called to ministry. No, that is a command for all. We are all called to seek a relationship with Him. From the youngest to the oldest we are called to seek Him. From the first day we walk with Him, to our last we are called to seek Him. It doesn’t matter how bad our sin has been, or how unworthy we feel, He is more than happy and eager to be with us, to spend time with us. Indeed “what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?” Psalm 8:4 He loves us so much he chose a manger to let us know we are welcomed to enter into His presence. We can come as we are, broken, wounded, sinners. He will accept, restore and transform our life.
Prayer Note:
Help us have a thirst for your word and seek your face daily
As we seek nourishment for our body, let us seek nourishment for our spirit.
