Day 2 A Swinging Blow For The Devil

Genesis 3:15 ESV

Focal Scripture: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

According to Spurgeon: Christ was bruised by the serpent, but this was a temporary blow, not a fatal one. This bruise was a direct result of crushing the serpent's head. Christ died, but this death did not last. His body was not corrupted by death, He was restored to his perfect splendor. It is this death that gave him victory over satan.

The first work of grace was pitting enmity, or rivalry/friction/conflict, between us and satan. Initially,we were at peace with satan. He tempted us, we yielded, he taught, we believed. We were willing participants. But then there came a time when we no longer found pleasure in the things of this world. We realized we were living in sin and were looking for a way out, seeking a change. We are now in the covenant of grace, appointed to be the woman’s seed as co-heirs in Christ. This was due to God dropping divine grace into your soul.

The serpent's power comes from unpardoned sin. It calls us guilty and cursed. But we must remember we are now delivered from  that curse. We are blessed because our transgressions have been forgiven. Who can condemn God’s elect?

Christ the Conqueror of Satan-Sermon delivered Nov. 26, 1876

My Thoughts:  There was this spiritual battle waging war over our souls. Christ and salvation on one side, Satan and damnation on the other. The battle was fought on the cross. The battle was won by Jesus Christ and we get to attain salvation because of it. We get to enter heaven because of it. We get to be co-heirs in Christ because of it. The gift of salvation can now be given to mankind. Will we accept this gift? Each of us has that choice to make.

In God’s first act of grace He put enmity between us and satan. Without the gift of salvation we were slaves to sin, slaves to satan. We did his work. We faithfully followed his ways, ways that led to death. One day we saw our sin. One day we cried out to God. We cried out to change. God faithfully answered our call, placed His divine grace into our soul and so began our new life. We became a new creation. No longer could the enemy accuse us before the Father. No longer could he call us guilty or cursed. We were saved by God, freed. The day we accepted the gift of salvation was the day our life began.

Prayer Note:

  1. Strength to overcome our temptation

  2. May our loved ones come to know Christ
