Day 20 – The Remedy To Fear
Luke 2:8-12 ESV
Focal Scripture: And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
According to Spurgeon: The good news of great joy preached by the angel was the birth of Jesus. There is a magnitude of distance between God and humanity. We are different kinds of beings, but God traded His divinity for a human form. He bridged the gap between us. Our souls are no longer orphans without a Father. “Jesus Christ eternally God, was born, and lived and died as we also do. That is the first word of comfort to expel our fear.”-Spurgeon
God Incarnate The End of Fear -Sermon delivered Dec. 23, 1866
My Thoughts: Let us take a moment and marvel at the intensity of God’s great love for us. Being the King of Kings, living in a perfect heaven, He decided to come down to us, to act as our savior. We could have stood alone, condemned for all eternity and in this He would still be a just God, but He is also a loving God. It was this love for us, for humanity that compelled Him to pay the ultimate price for our sins. He humbled Himself and came to this world as a baby, born to a poor family in a manger. This act allows us to approach Him knowing He understands what we go through. We can approach Him as His child.
Prayer Note:
Thank God for the love He has for us.
